Game 2

Following a week of craziness for us Alyssa's team was scheduled to play their second game of the season this past Saturday (April 9th) morning.  The Hammerheads were scheduled to face off against the North Texas Express for 10:30am at the Valley Creek Baseball Complex.  This is the first time that we have ever been to this complex and let me start by saying that it was nice.  The complex consists of four baseball fields, two parking lots, a playground, walking track, pond, and several other fields that can be used for soccer and football.  The complex itself is situated above the baseball fields making viewing of the games from the bleachers much easier.  The walkways and stadium areas are covered as are the dugouts. There are bathroom facilities as well as concession stands and everything is fenced in. Again all I can say to describe this location was NICE!!!

This game was a much more even pair up between our team and the Express and with the game beginning it was the Hammerheads that were to bat first.  First up to bat was Alyssa.  After hitting the ball and making it to first base safely she was called out by the umpire on the next play as she and the 2nd baseman reached the base at the exact same time.  During this inning the Hammerheads were able to score two runs in before it was time to change field positions and take to field.  By the end of the first inning the score was Hammerheads 2 North Texas Express 7.

In the second inning it seemed as if our team had finally come alive and wakened from a deep sleep.  Our kids came out to bat with some pretty good hits and runs.  When it was time to change field position they'd managed 7 runs in and only 2 outs.  In the field they seemed to be just as determined and with some team work and a few good plays it wasn't long before we had three of their players out.  Final score at the end of the 2nd inning was Hammerheads 9 North Texas Express 9.

During the third inning the game was still going pretty much the same.  There was a lot of giving and taking on both sides of the field with the teams playing their best.  During this inning the Hammerheads were able to manage five runs in before receiving three outs at the hands of the Express.  By the end of the third inning the score was Hammerheads 14 North Texas Express 16.

At the top of the fourth inning our play time limit was nearing.  For you see the rules in Tball state that the 6U teams can play up to 5 innings or for 1 hour 15minutes per game, which ever comes first.  If the team with the most points is up by 7 points the game is called and they are determined the winners. Otherwise the game will continue until then.  If the teams are tied then the game continues until one team scores an additional point.  So with our scores being so close and our kids determined not to loose this game the Hammerheads were up to bat.  Before the Express were able to get 3 outs on us our kids were able to bring in 2 more runners to tie the score at 16.

At this point our game time limit was up, it was time for the Express to bat and the next team to score a run would leave victorious.  The Express came out of their dugouts hitting to win and the Hammerheads were on top of the ball with the same goals.  Finally with one out and the bases loaded the Express were able to get a runner in and were able to walk away with their victory.  Final Score of the game: Hammerheads 16 North Texas Express 15.

It was a game well played by both teams and even though they lost the game our kids still walked away victorious.  They showed great improvements in their skills as a team, they played hard and to loose a game by a point really isn't that great of a loss.  Afterwards as they sat and enjoyed their well deserved drinks and snacks they were praised and congratulated by the coaches for a job well done and reassured that one day their moment to win will arrive.  In the meantime it's back to practice and getting ready for our next game.

I'd also like to thank the other parents (Sonia & Martha) for helping me keep an eye on Cayden at this game so that I could capture such great pictures and video.  I was there by myself for this game since Dalton had an O-meet (he came in 4th) and Michael had to work and these wonderful ladies were a great blessing!
